So the horse woman wasn’t mad after all!

I recall many moons ago as a student watching a livery paste handfuls of sticky honey onto her horse’s slow-healing leg injury. It was the first time I had seen proud flesh, it was rank – and I also thought the owner was mad horse woman! It didn’t take long before the transformation was complete and I bought my first jar of Manuka honey for my tack box!

Pro-Equine uses high UMF Manuka honey in its Aloe Vera and Manuka Gel. So how does Manuka honey compare with normal honey for wound care in horses? All honey contains some level of glucose oxidase, but Manuka varieties that are high in UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) are uniquely powerful at preventing and treating bacterial infections due to the synergistic interaction between this enzyme and UMF. Raw honey can be made from any plant but Manuka honey is made from the nectar of the flowers of the Manuka bush which contains very high levels of an antibacterial compound called methylglyoxal (MGO). Manuka honey is also rich in a unique enzyme known as glucose oxidase that produces natural hydrogen peroxide, a proven antiseptic with its own unique antibacterial properties ready to tackle the most stubborn of wounds on your horse.  So you see the the woman wasn’t entirely mad after all! Gone are the days when you had to bandage over your sticky honey application, Pro-Equine have come to the rescue with the handy Aloe Vera and Manuka gel. This non-sting, soothing product for wound care can be used around your horse’s eyes and on sensitive areas.
