MUD PASTERN AND FETLOCK PROBLEMS

Horses, particularly those with white socks, can have mud pastern and fetlock problems, particularly during the wet, muddy winter months. Caused by a bacterium, affected legs can become scabby and ‘solid’ and, if not given attention, can be quite sore. Pro-Equine has two excellent products for horses’ legs – Neem Oil and Mud Bug Buster. Both products contain Neem oil which is antibacterial and waterproof. Neem oil contains vitamin E and many essential amino acids which help moisturise and soothe the skin. Its collagen properties promote healthy, new skin, reduce scar tissue and encourage rapid hair re-growth. Using Neem Oil on legs Mud Bug Buster (or neat Neem Oil) should be applied directly on the affected area to soothe and soften the scabs. There is no need to shampoo which can make the skin more sensitive. The Mud Bug Buster should be rubbed off with a clean, dry cloth at regular intervals to remove debris. Before turning out, a generous application of Mud Bug Buster will create a waterproof barrier which will last all day.

Horse with mud fever

“I have been fighting mud issues on my horse’s legs for around 7 months and nothing was working. I bought Pro-Equine’s Neem Oil at Blair International Horse Trials. I noticed a difference within 3 days, which was amazing. It’s very easy to use and reapply, and there’s no hassle of washing and drying the legs first, like with the many other lotions I was given by the vet.” Liz S
