Neem FAQs

What is neem?

The Neem tree is an evergreen tree indigenous to India. Neem oil is pressed from the seeds of the tree. In India, Neem is most commonly used as an insecticide and sprayed on crops.

Domestically it is used to control insects and mites, and for minor wound care.

How do I use neem oil?

Neem oil can be used neat with a small amount being rubbed into affected areas, such as the mane and tail.

It can also be diluted to make a rinse solution or spray by adding to water along with a small amount of mild detergent.

A dilution of at least 1 part Neem to 20 parts water is recommended for a fly spray.

What is the difference between cold-pressed Neem Oil and other Neem Oils?

Cold-pressed, as with olive oils, means it is top quality. Azadirachtin is the key active ingredient in Neem and is measured in ppm (parts per million). There are many strengths available on the market, with poorer oils being as low as 300ppm. Pro-Equine’s Neem oil has a minimum strength of 2,000ppm.
